Kirkway House

This long and narrow site affords stunning views to Kāpiti Island and beyond.

The house is broken into occupancy zones. Living spaces line the north face, including a sheltered sunny courtyard with the guest and entertainment spaces opposite. A grand double height gallery splits the house centrally and frames views to the ocean. The master bedroom and ancillary space are located on the first floor.

Materials are selected for their raw natural colours and textures and appropriateness for this marine location. A playful zinc roof completes the palette.

Views to the west and the entry to the east are framed by a box. Roof geometry wraps the building form with scale-like skin allowing natural light to penetrate deeply into the house.
