Precast concrete, steel and plywood provide low maintenance finishes
The 1200m2 Gisborne CPS Building represents the change in requirements from what were formerly periodic detention sheds to facilities that provide a mixture of monitoring and rehabilitation services as well as Community Works support. Developer-driven for an institutional occupier, the building is sited in a light industrial area on the city fringe. The facility reflects both this environment and the requirements for a robust and secure building inherent in its function. Honest use of precast concrete, steel and plywood provide low maintenance finishes, with the overall effect softened through colour and detail to avoid an overtly institutional appearance. The scale of the building is moderated with the low overhanging eaves that in turn provide welcome shade from the Gisborne climate.
